Composting - The Middle Path :)

Now isn't that a strange title for a Blog Post?

Our Society, Our "Culture" gets very caught up in Media, politics, cultural norms etc. As Martinists we know this... basic "no brainer." Who do you listen to? The advertisement from Home Depot? Mother Earth News? Better Homes & Gardens? Ouch! Man......what to do?

I love composting. It is one of the things that I do for love of Earth and for my own economics. It gives me GREAT satisfaction. I also have the formal education to practice what I preach and practice :) So.....what's up?

Some of us live in little apartments, some of us have postage stamp yards, some live the Harry and Harriet Suburban life, and others have small or large farms.....yes we are diversified (Thank The Cosmos!)

So here is the POOP on composting (literally) The "Middle Path" for the ICK! :)

1) The first thing to remember AND ACCEPT. Perfect composting is a TWO YEAR process. Yes if you are composting your kitchen waste in a Home Depot compost bin you can have a small amount of compost in three months that may suit your needs and MORE POWER TO YOU I am so happy that you are doing that! Do not think that I am "belittling" what your are doing.

2) You can not compost dog poop, you can not compost human waste. WRONG!!! Oh sooooooo wrong. The problems we have had with these two are "raw sewage." If you are composting these things in a large "organic sponge" you are fine. In fact the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT advises and trains underdeveloped nations on exactly how to do this. We don't do it here because our infrastructure is not designed for it.

3) OH MY GOD WILLIAM WHAT ABOUT PATHOGENS?! You have good reason for concern. BUT every organism has its "niche." For those of you without a Biological education that means "place of survival." When you properly compost over a two year period those pathogens do not survive. Why? Because their "niche" was up your butt and not in a compost pile! (sorry but that is just the best way to put it). Organisms need steady temperature, aerobic (oxygen) or anaerobic (no oxygen) environments. An outdoor compost bin on a two year schedule exposes those pathogens to aerobic, anaerobic, freezing, extreme heat, absolute dryness and compete saturation with H20.  Not only can the pathogen not survive.... Babe... you wouldn't either.

4) Every one of you has a different life style, different size of family, different location. That is all cool. It is all about the "Middle Path." It is not what you "can't do"... is is about what you are ABLE to do.

5) I am more than happy to talk to you about what would "work" for you in your environment. If you would like some help please send a "Friend Request" and say "POOP" somewhere in it :) My brain is yours to pick :)

6) Our Earth is sooooo very important. None of us can fix it all. As Martinists there are some things we can do....even if it is on a smaller scale than others. Every little bit helps us all. No you are not "Superman" You are the far more POWERFUL "MINI-MAN"! :)

Peace Profound

William
