Rewarded Suffering

If one were to face a sizable amount of trials and tribulations, upsets and disappointments, hardships and failures, what would one find?  Would one become weak and despondent, or perhaps tempered by the fire?  Is this what it takes initially to detach from the sensual world and seek the higher sphere?  Would one find that suffering really is necessary until one realizes that it's not necessary?  Does one need a certain amount of suffering to awaken?

Fall is here.

I hope that everyone is starting to enjoy the Fall weather-especially those of us that have the Fall colors.

My husband and I work the night shift at the hospital up here in the Capital Region of New York and we sleep during the daytime, so we have to schedule everything around that.

I am studying solitary due to the work schedule. Not easy-but, I can manage it. All worth it.

Life itself is a constant learning process and you make of it what you will.

Someday, I hope to visit a Heptad as I have never been to one. I can not always get the days off that I need to do something and have to work around that at home.

I hope everyone is doing well and in good health.

My health is constantly improving. On 12/17/2012 I had Gastric Bypass Surgery via the DaVinci Robot and have lost 160 pounds since then. It was a life changer as I am no longer on my Diabetic Meds since I left the hospital and I feel 100% better-no longer getting short of breath when I climb stairs, etc..

That was a part of my journey.

Picking Wool - A Meditation & Exercise

One of the means I use to enhance meditation, increase awareness/attention is to "pick wool."

What in tarnation?.....William? ...Huh? ;)

I enjoy fibers, handling them, processing them and creating with them. Wool as a raw fleece needs to be washed, dried and "picked." Starting with the raw fleece that is full of little pieces of plant material I give it a good shake and then I wash it very gently in hot water and Dawn dish soap. After a couple of washing's and rinses (icky water full of lanolin etc.) It gets set out to dry.

Now comes the "picking" :) commercially the wool would be treated with harsh chemicals (even fire) to "burn out" any left over contaminants....but this isn't so good for the wool ;( and....well not my style :) Some use a mechanical picker that kind of thrashes the wool knocking out some of the contaminants...but they do a rather poor job. Me?  I do it by hand....very much like the cotton pickers of old removing the seeds from the burr. So far all of this is to some extent a mediation but this final part is the really cool part.

Sitting quietly with a very small clump of wool in my hand I gently "open up" the fibers. loosening the locks and knots that are there and discarding any large weed stickers and the like that may still remain. Looking at the wool (if it is dark) you see little slivers of grass, dander, hardened lanolin. Using my left hand I pull very small lengths of fiber out of my bundle and catch them in the palm of my left hand. I don't attempt to attack and remove the contaminant from the wool, but rather remove the wool from the contaminant. As I pull/pick the contaminants drop to the floor.

A slow methodical process that has a single focus and calms/empties the mind. Often I do this while I listen to a lecture without viewing any visual that may accompany the lecture. I never pay attention to the massive pile that needs to be picked... that is unimportant. I am not in a hurry...perfection is my desire.

It reminds me that often it is far easier and more effective to remove the body/mind from the offending contaminant than it is to try to grasp the offence and pluck it from our body. I watch the contaminant fall from the fleece and drift away to wherever the comic is now sending it.

Peace Profound,

William

Labyrinth & Maze ? (You choose)

re-visiting the mystical meaning in the word Amaze     ,,,,    Amazing,
Perhaps our fellow Martinists will enjoy this.
....observer Jules...
In a corporate context, we can consider whether a business is being run  like a labyrinth or a maze. A business that is run like a maze tends to be very  competitive, with everyone trying to outsmart each other. The atmosphere feels  adversarial, based on the fear that there is not enough to go around, so that  the end justifies the means. A maze is designed to get you lost, so the business  will be a game played with rules not everyone fully understands. You would only  ever have a limited perspective, unable to see around the next corner, resulting  in a sense of isolation and anxiety. It is usually filled with “amazing” people  pursuing their own individual agendas rather than working as a team.
A business that operates like a labyrinth would feel collaborative, not  competitive. The values and direction of the company would be clear and easy to  understand. Individual creativity would be welcomed to enhance the process. It  would feel like a more holistic game in which you are able to trust that  everything is set up to support your best efforts and that you will all end up  in the right place together. It would be based on the view that there is room  for everyone to flourish - an interdependent community working together toward a  shared goal.
You might like to consider whether your life feels like you’re living in a  labyrinth or a maze. Do you feel like you have perspective on whatever is going  on for you right now? Or, do you feel trapped by the choices you’ve made and  anxious about making changes? Are you able to follow the unfolding path of your  life with ease and grace, or does it feel like a constant uphill struggle? Do  you find all the twists and turns of your path an irritating and/or frightening  inconvenience? Or, are you able to lean into and befriend the changes until they  reveal their blessings and you are able to arrive at a sense of gratitude? What  if we chose to believe that are truly held and blessed by what is? How would  that change the way you walk the labyrinth of your life?
Daniel Pink’s six right brain aptitudes applied in a business context:
1. Not just function but Design: It is no longer enough to have a  product or service that is simply functional. It is economically crucial and  personally rewarding to create something that is beautiful and/or emotionally  engaging.
2. Not just argument but  Story: There is just so much  information today. The essence of persuasion and communication is ability to  create a compelling story.
3. Not just focus but  Symphony: Not just left brained  analysis but whole mind synthesis. Seeing the bigger picture and consciously  developing the ability to combine all the disparate pieces into an arresting new  whole.
4. Not just logic but Empathy: The ability to understand what makes  people tick – the capacity to forge relationship and actually care for  others.
5. Not just serious business but Play: The health and professional benefits of  lightheartedness.
6. Not just accumulation but Meaning: The plenty of our western lives frees us  to pursue more than survival. It enables us to consider purpose and  meaning.

Composting - The Middle Path :)

Now isn't that a strange title for a Blog Post?

Our Society, Our "Culture" gets very caught up in Media, politics, cultural norms etc. As Martinists we know this... basic "no brainer." Who do you listen to? The advertisement from Home Depot? Mother Earth News? Better Homes & Gardens? Ouch! Man......what to do?

I love composting. It is one of the things that I do for love of Earth and for my own economics. It gives me GREAT satisfaction. I also have the formal education to practice what I preach and practice :) So.....what's up?

Some of us live in little apartments, some of us have postage stamp yards, some live the Harry and Harriet Suburban life, and others have small or large farms.....yes we are diversified (Thank The Cosmos!)

So here is the POOP on composting (literally) The "Middle Path" for the ICK! :)

1) The first thing to remember AND ACCEPT. Perfect composting is a TWO YEAR process. Yes if you are composting your kitchen waste in a Home Depot compost bin you can have a small amount of compost in three months that may suit your needs and MORE POWER TO YOU I am so happy that you are doing that! Do not think that I am "belittling" what your are doing.

2) You can not compost dog poop, you can not compost human waste. WRONG!!! Oh sooooooo wrong. The problems we have had with these two are "raw sewage." If you are composting these things in a large "organic sponge" you are fine. In fact the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT advises and trains underdeveloped nations on exactly how to do this. We don't do it here because our infrastructure is not designed for it.

3) OH MY GOD WILLIAM WHAT ABOUT PATHOGENS?! You have good reason for concern. BUT every organism has its "niche." For those of you without a Biological education that means "place of survival." When you properly compost over a two year period those pathogens do not survive. Why? Because their "niche" was up your butt and not in a compost pile! (sorry but that is just the best way to put it). Organisms need steady temperature, aerobic (oxygen) or anaerobic (no oxygen) environments. An outdoor compost bin on a two year schedule exposes those pathogens to aerobic, anaerobic, freezing, extreme heat, absolute dryness and compete saturation with H20.  Not only can the pathogen not survive.... Babe... you wouldn't either.

4) Every one of you has a different life style, different size of family, different location. That is all cool. It is all about the "Middle Path." It is not what you "can't do"... is is about what you are ABLE to do.

5) I am more than happy to talk to you about what would "work" for you in your environment. If you would like some help please send a "Friend Request" and say "POOP" somewhere in it :) My brain is yours to pick :)

6) Our Earth is sooooo very important. None of us can fix it all. As Martinists there are some things we can do....even if it is on a smaller scale than others. Every little bit helps us all. No you are not "Superman" You are the far more POWERFUL "MINI-MAN"! :)

Peace Profound

William

My "Requirement."

Years ago I developed a "requirement" for life. I suppose this came out of the instances of Joy, Fear, Disappointment, Peace and Troubles that we all encounter. I informed the Cosmic that since life was ever changing the only thing I ask of it is that it be "Interesting." That I would handle the changes, pleasant or unpleasant, but to "Please keep it interesting."

I laugh at this now. If something is "interesting" obviously you are considering the many facets of whatever has/is occurring. Since change is inevitable what was in front of me was always "interesting". The gift from the Cosmic did not change....only my perception of that gift I made the choice to (in addition/or replacement of any associated emotion) to view my life differently than I had.

By adopting this environmental perception; I was then (and am) free to not be overcome as often and can, regardless of circumstance, move through a day treating humanity with the respect, compassion and love it needs and deserves.

Do I want the World to "STOP" so I can get off? At times yes. I'm human. But, it only takes a second for things to get "interesting." And included in "interesting" is my feeble or powerful reaction to what is before me.

Peace Profound

Make someone smile...or better yet laugh!

Is there a place one could research the order of various Orders? Why have the Masons and Rosicrucians added onto their system with various orders? Is this so people may have other beliefs? What was the main church that these esoteric groups branched off of?

"Childish or Childlike" ?

TODAY'S CONTEMPLATION

I am often accused of being childish.  I prefer to interpret that as child-like.  I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things.  I tend to exaggerate and fantasize and embellish.  I still listen to instinctual urges.  I play with leaves.  I skip down the street and run against the wind.  I never water my garden without soaking myself.  It has been after such times of joy that I have achieved my greatest creativity and produced my best work.

Books by Paul Foster Case

Paul Foster Case was a founding member of BOTA Builders of the Adytum and one of the leading scholars in using the visualizations of the Tarot to better understand the the vast meanings of the Tree of Life. I find his work thoughtful, intellectually digestible, and very helpful in my studies of the Kabbalah.

I have always been one who learns best through the use of visualizations and especially through patterns. Thus, I find PFC's work quite attractive for both it's style and content. As anyone who has studied Kabbalah knows, there are so many intricacies and paths for thought that it can be a daunting if not frustrating endeavor when trying to understand the depth of meaning presented in the Tree of Life. PFC's uses the Tarot, not for divination, but as a visual allegory, to help the student better understand the intricacies of the Tree of Life.

If you are interested in exploring his work for yourself I recommend: The Tarot: A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages http://www.amazon.com/Tarot-Key-Wisdom-Ages/dp/1585424919/ref=la_B000APSN22_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1407242814&sr=1-1 ;, Book of Tokens http://www.amazon.com/Book-Tokens-Tarot-Meditations-Paul-Case/dp/0938002007/ref=la_B000APSN22_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1407242814&sr=1-7. ;

“People of peace, men and women of desire, such is the splendor of the Temple in which you will one day have the right to take your place.
